Could even be some kind of merger or takeover. The domain names sound too high level for promoting a Windows phone or some Sony computer with MS software.

If they release one console together, I'd welcome that. I think too much money has been wasted on "multiplatform" development and buying multiple consoles.

Microsoft responds to Microsoft-Sony domain registrations

A Microsoft employee has come out in the open and specified the reason for the company registering two domains names Sony-Microsoft.com and Microsoft-Sony.com.
Frank X. Shaw confirmed that this was just a defensive move in order to ensure that no third party can wrongfully purchase the said domains and misuse them. It has nothing to do with a possible partnership between the two giants.
