More than half of the world's richest clubs by revenue are from the Premier League, according to analysis by Deloitte.

Eleven Premier League clubs make up the top 20 in their Money League study from the 2021-22 season.

It is the first time in the study's 26 years that more than half of the clubs are from the same league.

Champions Manchester City retained top spot, making 731m euros (£619.1m), ahead of Real Madrid (713.8m euros).

Liverpool rise to third from seventh, while Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal also make the top 10, with West Ham, Leicester, Leeds, Everton and Newcastle in the top 20.

The top 20 clubs made 9.2bn euros (£7.82bn), a 13% increase from 2020-21.

That increase is largely down to the return of fans to stadia for the first full season after Covid-19 restrictions, with matchday revenue rising from rising from 111m euros to 1.4bn euros.

Five of the Premier League's 'big six' - Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur - reported revenue increases of 15% or more. That saw a total increase of 226m euros.

Commercial revenues rose 8%, from 3.5bn euros to 3.8bn euros (£2.975bn to £3.23bn) but there was an 11% (485m euros/£412.25m) fall in broadcast revenue. Last season's figures were higher than usual because of postponed matches from the 2019-20 season being played.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte will have surgery to remove his gallbladder on Wednesday, the club have confirmed.

The 53-year-old Italian was diagnosed with cholecystitis, an inflammation of the gallbladder, after becoming "unwell with severe abdominal pain".

Spurs' next game is at home to second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

The club have said Conte will return "following a period of recuperation".

"Everyone at the club wishes him well," Tottenham added.

Conte's side are currently fifth in the Premier League table on 36 points, 14 points behind league leaders and north London rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham's board has rejected claims by the club's Supporters' Trust that it has not invested enough in the team.

The Trust wrote to the board last month highlighting concerns in a number of areas, including recruitment.

In its reply, the board said more than £500m had been spent on players since the club's new stadium opened in 2019.

"It's important that we deal with facts - our spend levels quite clearly show that we have backed our football side," read the letter.

"The club has invested heavily in the squad. This is a continual process with the aim of standing the club in good stead on the pitch for years to come."

The Supporters' Trust listed four main areas of concern including the medium and long-term strategy for success, manager Antonio Conte's contract situation, recent player recruitment and future investment, adding these issues had been "exacerbated by a lack of communication" with fans.

Former Chelsea boss Conte, who was appointed in November 2021, is out of contract in June - although Spurs hold the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

In its reply the board said £200m was spent on new players last summer alone, with a further £47m during the January transfer window.

"Since opening the stadium in April 2019, we have spent more than £500m putting us in the top quartile of spending in the Premier League - and we have made significant investments in the women's team too," it said.

"Despite this we consistently see references to our perceived lack of backing for head coaches and lack of spending.

"There is always a fine line between long-term investment and short-termism - which is why our recruitment has to be first class. Mistakes at this level leave a financial and sporting impact for future seasons.

"We have felt the financial impact of supporting player purchases which have not worked out as hoped. We have taken steps to improve this area of operations and the recent windows reflect this."

The Trust said it welcomed the board's response but wanted to see "greater acknowledgement" of the "legitimate concerns" of some fans and a "fuller explanation" in a number of key areas.

It added that there was a desire among Trust members to arrange a meeting to discuss the club's financial results, which are due to be released later this month.

It has been reported billionaire Jahm Najafi is set to launch a £3.1bn takeover of the north London club.

No approach has been made by Iranian-American Najafi so far.

Najafi is chair of sports investment company MSP Sports Capital; the Financial Times reports he is working with a consortium of investors to put together a bid for Spurs.

It added Najafi was weeks away from approaching Tottenham owner Joe Lewis and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Najafi is a minority shareholder in NBA team the Phoenix Suns.

Club announcement – Antonio departs

We can announce that Head Coach Antonio Conte has left the Club by mutual agreement. We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio’s first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future.

Cristian Stellini will take the team as Acting Head Coach for the remainder of the season, along with Ryan Mason as Assistant Head Coach.
