Final Fantasy XXL Announced


Square-Enix today announced its latest plans for the Final Fantasy series. Surprisingly, it has decided to postpone production on Final Fantasy XII in favor of releasing yet another FFX spinoff, apparently to ensure more guaranteed Final Fantasy sales within the fiscal year.
The new installment, entitled Final Fantasy XXL, seems to be aimed primarily at the American market, and appears to be a reaction to fan comments on Final Fantasy X-2. After receiving much criticism for having relied on scantily clad female protagonists in X-2, director Yoshinori Kitase has come up with an entirely alternate approach for XXL. "We always typically try to make our quests larger with each new installment in the Final Fantasy series," said Kitase. "This time we decided to focus on the characters."

That's right. Final Fantasy XXL takes place three years after X-2, and features a decidedly, erm, larger cast of characters. Yuna, Paine, and Rikku are now married and bon bon eating housewives. Spira is suddenly attacked by an unknown force from the past, and the trio is called into action once again.
