Microsoft addresses Xbox One Kinect privacy concerns

Addressing recent concerns raised by Germany's federal commissioner for data protection and other sources, Microsoft has detailed how users can maintain their personal privacy when using the Xbox One's motion-sensing Kinect camera.

Emphasizing that "You are in control of what Kinect can see and hear," Microsoft notes that individual user and family privacy settings can be accessed during Xbox One setup or at any time afterward. In addition, the company assures that conversation and other background noise will not be recorded or monitored by Kinect in any way.

"By design, you will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup," Microsoft said. "The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used. When Xbox One is on and you're simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded."

Microsoft also notes that the Kinect can be disabled at any time during console operation, though some games may require the peripheral to be active for certain gameplay features.

While Kinect monitoring will play a key role in certain game types (Microsoft cites exercise apps and multiplayer card games as examples), alternate control schemes for menus and other functions will be available via the Xbox One's controller and connected mobile devices while the Kinect is paused.

"You can play games or enjoy applications that use data, such as videos, photos, facial expressions, heart rate and more, but this data will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission," Microsoft states.

We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

xbox one來講,4K BLU-RAY個部份真係唔洗理。

得HDMI 1.4過兩年4K開始普及，無人會主要買佢來當PLAYERS用的。

0,因為15隻全部MS發行的,例如個fan咩咩都titanfall呢D唔算落15隻入面,所以會係15+X隻第三方獨佔(如果真係有,當然目前已有兩隻)

所以我都好質疑到底有幾多個呢D人 , 定純粹留難式O既吐糟 ,
今次錯在同反二手等等幾樣野一齊做(當然問題起點其實差不多)
先會受到各方攻擊

因為我覺得"我唔想上網所以一部要上網O既機我玩唔到" 其實同"我唔想開電制所以打唔到機" 係差唔多...

David please, I'm not trying to start a mindless post war here - but I really think some of the policies MS set here for the Xbox One are truly inconvenient here.

First off, I do agree with you that somethings are relatively minor, e.g. kinect always on? I'm sure we can turn if off, or put a cloth on it as u suggested.

But what about these?
1. connecting to the internet every 24 hours.
there are people, even in developed countries, that don't have stable or high speed internet. (you need to pay for internet, remember) and people who travel constantly? military? they can't enjoy the console they bought because of this restriction.

2. you can only sell games back to "authorised retailer"
that probably only means big chain retailers like GameStop will be participating. why restrict this? small, independent shops will be left out and this will drive down the trade in price. this is simply anti-consumer. just imagine in HK, perhaps we won't be able to sell it AT ALL.

3. can't lend a game, can't rent a game.
if i want to give a game to my friend, he/she has to be on my friend list for 30 days - ok that's troublesome but doable. but then they can't sell it again. simply shows MS want to squeeze all the money out from the consumers.

4. what's going to happen after Xbox One is no longer supported?
Xbox One servers are not going to be around forever. because one day it's not going to be profitable for MS - and all you have is just a brick of Xbox One and a bunch of discs that you can't play anymore. I can still play my GameCube games, SNES, PS2 etc. but in the future? not your Xbox One.

for over 30 years we can trade, sell, rent, lent a game freely. what MS has done here is simply disgusting.

我住O係香港呢個上網算普及O既地方 , 屋企上到網 , 我接受到我每次玩之前ON一次LINE , 亦都同而家PS360一樣 , 部機買番黎已經一直駁住NETWORK , 唔買賣2手 ,
我諗我可以玩XBOX ONE

上唔到網O既地區仲可以選擇PS4 , 人人有機打 不過佢有無機打真係關我咩事?
