The Elder Scrolls Online to release in 2013 on PC, Mac

Game Informer has announced that The Elder Scrolls Online, the long-rumored MMO from Bethesda’s parent company is real.

The game takes place in Tamriel 1,000 years before Skyrim and focuses on daedric prince Molag Bal’s attempt to take over the land. The game will contain three factions, PvP, and is in the works at ZeniMax Online Studios.

“It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years,”director Matt Firor, whose previous credits include Dark Age of Camelot, told the magazine. “The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”

Rumors regarding the title have been circulating for ages, with the latest report stating the developers were readying for a May reveal. They were’t too far off now, were they?

The source was also spot on stating the game would take place a millennium before the events in Skyrim, which is several hundred years before the other titles in the series. The anonymous source was also correct regarding the three playable factions, and cited the symbols as a “lion, a dragon, and a bird of prey.”

More details on the MMO will be revealed in the June issue of Game Informer, which will provide an “in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons.”

The feature will also provide a look at the PvP where players will engage in “open warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor’s throne itself.”

A teaser trailer will be released tomorrow as well as the first screenshot of the game.

The Elder Scrolls Online is slated for a 2013 release on Mac and PC.

No, The Elder Scrolls Online is not our next project, it’s a ZeniMax Online Studios game.

個人而言不看好
單機和MMO是兩回事
再加上不是Bethesda Game Studios本家搞的The Elder Scrolls
還是不要過份期待

成果如何真的要待成品出來才可以知道,製作單機遊戲跟MMO是不同的,不過照例FANS們會不理一切先興奮吧。

First Elder Scrolls Online details unfurled

by Richard Mitchell (1 day ago)

Details from Game Informer's Elder Scrolls Online cover story have already begun appearing online, it would seem. The game has been in development since 2007 by a team of 250, according to a post on NeoGAF. It will feature full voice acting throughout and will be played from a third-person perspective (generally not the most efficient way to play previous Elder Scrolls titles). As mentioned in yesterday's announcement, The Elder Scrolls Online takes place 1000 years in the past and will span almost all of Tamriel, though certain areas are being saved for the purposes of future expansions.

Zenimax Online is reportedly doing its best to strike a balance between the Elder Scrolls series and traditional MMOs, trying to appeal to players of both. In other words, yes, expect to use a traditional MMO hotbar to access your skills. You can also expect epic player-vs-player battles – up to 100-vs-100 in some instances – as factions compete to take over Cyrodil's Imperial City, with the winning faction installing its greatest champion as emperor. The NeoGAF post has plenty of other details and, of course, July's issue of Game Informer has even more.

聽落唔錯,但玩過GW2之後,唔知仲返唔返到轉頭玩舊式MMO...

The Elder Scrolls Online main story will be '100 percent solo'

by Jessica Conditt (2 days ago)

The main story in The Elder Scrolls Online will be a solitary experience, game director Matt Firor revealed in a video interview with Game Informer.

"In the Elder Scrolls games you're always the hero, whether you want to be or not," Firor said. "You go out there and you kill the dragons. You kill Mehrunes Dagon in Oblivion. In Morrowind, you're up there fighting the Tribunal - those are huge, global, epic things that you don't want to stand in line to do in an MMO. The last thing you want to do is have the final confrontation with Mehrunes Dagon as he's stomping across the Imperial City, and you see like 15 guys behind you waiting to kill him because they're on the same quest.

"We have a whole part of the game that is 100 per cent solo, which is the main story, where the world focuses on you. You are the hero, everything you do is solo and the world reacts to you that way," Firor said.

Previous details do include PvP matches of up to 200 players, but those are obviously separate from the main quest. The Elder Scrolls Online will be played in a third-person perspective and is attempting to be a "modern" MMO, blending The Elder Scrolls features into this new genre. Not all Elder Scrolls fans are happy with the new title's angle, but Firor said that's just fine.

"The worst situation for a game community to be in is where no one posts on the boards because they don't care," he said. "If they post on the boards, they care, even if they're not being so polite about it. But that's a fact of life: You're an Internet game, you're on the Internet, you have an Internet community. And the Internet community is always very vocal.

"So what you do is learn from it. You make sure you do the best job to deliver the best game that you can and they you go from there."

Elder Scrolls Online devs talk questing and public dungeons

There are a couple of new Elder Scrolls Online features on tap at Edge. First on the agenda is a piece about the game's public dungeons, which game director Matt Firor says haven't been seen in an MMO since EverQuest. "When you think back to the fun MMOG moments in the first generation, it's standing there, terrified, in an enclosed space, waiting for someone to come along and save you. We can't do that punitive gameplay that they did in those days, but we can put people together in places where they want to work with others," Firor says.

The other feature centers on the game's questing mechanics, and it finds Firor and creative director Paul Sage talking at length about what makes a good quest as well as various high-level creative approaches taken by the dev team.

The Elder Scrolls Online's Matt Firor on moving the franchise online

There's a lot of pressure on Matt Firor these days as he heads production on The Elder Scrolls Online. Fans of the franchise have a lot of expectations about what the game will look like when it finally launches, but as Firor explains in a recent interview, his main concern is making the best possible game for the widest possible audience. Thus, rather than marketing specifically to everyone who loved Skyrim, the team is concerned with making the best possible overall game for a wider audience.

Firor also elaborates on the fact that the success of the game does not determine the future of the franchise. Bethesda and ZeniMax are different studios with different priorities, and the success of either helps the other. If you're interested in the production values behind the upcoming title, take a look at the full interview. It's light on game details, but it's an interesting glance behind the scenes

So you know that the beta for The Elder Scrolls Online is coming up, right? Of course you do! But what you don't know are many details about it. Well, slide on up to the counter here and we'll give you the scoop -- with a cherry on top.

Beta events will begin as smaller, scheduled play sessions (usually on weekends) with a limited play window focusing on something specific. Invitations for the first round of public events will start going out at the end of March, with the tests starting shortly thereafter. Events will become more frequent and last longer as launch approaches, and players can receive separate invites for multiple events.

Testers will be selected based on various criteria and all invites will go to the email players used to sign up for the beta. If you haven't signed up yet, there's still time! Just head to the official site to fill out the beta application.
