Gran Turismo Sport Closed Beta Gets Huge 9.8GB Update

May 3rd, 2017 by Kyle Patrick

Polyphony Digital has pushed out an update for the Gran Turismo Sport closed beta. The update addresses numerous issues, and weighs in at a whopping 9.8GB.
A short list of patch notes has accompanied the v1.05 update. According to the list, improvements have been made to the physics and force feedback engines, though no specifics were given. The Sportsmanship rating has been corrected in terms of judgement and display, while a set of quick options have been added to the Pause menu.
The big news is a massive expansion of the existing Sport race schedule. Previous versions of the beta limited racing to a few hours each day, but v1.05 has the daily races running almost non-stop. This could mean another expansion into yet more territories, or the ability for Europeans to race against North Americans.
The large download size hints at other hidden content, but what? Last month, the big news was Porsche officially joining the franchise. Polyphony showed off three new circuits shortly after — Blue Moon Bay, Dragon Trail, and Sardegna. Players have already driven two of those new tracks, but Sardegna has only been visible as a replay from the main menu.
Existing beta players have already reported several undocumented changes, such as the inclusion of ghosts in qualifying. The chase cam has also received an update, allowing players to choose its relative stiffness compared to the car’s movements.
Stay tuned to GTPlanet for more news on the GT Sport closed beta.

The Gran Turismo Sport Media Cup Has Begun, and GTPlanet is Taking Part

May 11th, 2017 by Kyle Patrick

Polyphony Digital has revealed the newest challenge held within the ongoing GT Sport closed beta. Dubbed the “Media Cup”, the event has already begun and will run through to the end of this weekend.
Multiple media outlets will be taking part in the event, including GTPlanet. A handful of drivers will represent each site in the Media Cup. These drivers will be racing amongst the rest of the existing beta testers to achieve their best possible Driver and Sportsmanship Ratings. The top ten drivers in both categories will be scored, and the combined total will be used for rankings.
Media Cup Ranking System

1st: 25 Points
2nd: 18 Points
3rd: 15 Points
4th: 12 Points
5th: 10 Points
6th: 8 Points
7th: 6 Points
8th: 4 Points
9th: 2 Points
10th: 1 Point
Media Cup Race Schedule

Dates: Wednesday, May 10 through Sunday, May 14
Weekday Race Hours: 1700–2000 UTC
Weekend Race Hours: 1200–1800 UTC
Participants aren’t limited to the above times: they’re free to race at any other point in time as well, but only races done during the above periods will be scored for the Media Cup.
As of the time of writing, our man Kevin (@EDK) has taken an early lead over Game Informer’s Matt Kato. Jordan isn’t far behind, sitting only two points away from Kato in fourth. Go team!
Want to follow along? Keep track of the standings on the Media Cup Leaderboard located at the official Gran Turismo website. With E3 around the corner — and GT Sport expected to release later this year — we imagine this is only the first of many future competitions within the game. Hopefully, the next one includes some Porsche goodness

GT Sport’s Copper Box Reveal: One Year Later, What Have We Learned?

May 19th, 2017 by Andrew Evans

A year ago today, Polyphony Digital officially revealed Gran Turismo Sport at a grand event in London’s Olympic Park.
The event, in the Copper Box Arena, allowed an opportunity to play an early version of the game for the first time. Surrounded by all of the Vision GT cars to date, Kazunori Yamauchi revealed key details about the game.
It’s been 365 days since that evening in London, and we’re reviewing what else we’ve discovered about GT Sport in the intervening year.
Release date

This was one of the key pieces of information shared in London, but has since gone by the wayside. Yamauchi announced a global release period of November 15–22 2016, but a message on the Playstation blog revealed a reschedule.
At present there is no official release date, although many retailers expect the game by the end of 2017.
Public beta

Fans had been expecting a public beta in early 2016, but this had not happened by the time of the Copper Box event. During the show we discovered that the beta was postponed. Yamauchi told us it had become necessary in order to meet the release date announced at the event.
As noted above, this date has now slipped. Some fans though can enjoy a closed beta, which went live in March. Crucially, the beta allows the opportunity for Polyphony to test the new dedicated servers.

Vehicles

We’ve seen a number of new vehicles announced, but one addition has been more significant than most. Following the end of a much-derided exclusivity agreement, Gran Turismo finally has Porsche.
Probably the most-requested marque, the addition of Porsche is something to delight many fans. Porsche itself has suggested that it will continue to support the game with new content, which is good news as the game may end up with over 500 cars over time.
Kazunori also confirmed that GT Sport will not include “standard” cars — legacy models from old Gran Turismo games.
Tracks

The Copper Box event featured relatively few circuits. The demo there included Nürburgring, of course, alongside Brands Hatch, a new Tokyo street circuit and the Northern Isle Speedway oval.
Since then we’ve another oval added – Blue Moon Bay – in a three-track announcement, along with Dragon Trail and Sardegna Windmills.
Most significant of all though is the inclusion of Interlagos. This incredible real-life circuit has yet to feature in any gameplay demos or preview videos, but we can’t wait.

Hardware

Gamers have had a hard time using their old wheels with the PS4 generation of racing games. Fortunately Polyphony wishes to continue to support these wheels with Gran Turismo Sport.
Those looking for something new though can’t have missed the new Thrustmaster option shown at the Copper Box. We’ve had a closer look at it since, but details are still rather sketchy.
We’ve also seen GT Sport used with Playstation VR for the first time.
Online

Clearly the biggest news was the dedicated server option mentioned above. That aside, we’ve also seen more details regarding online matchmaking. Drivers are assigned rankings based on their ability and fairness, to keep the dreadful apart from those playing more seriously. Those currently playing the closed beta are experiencing how this works first-hand.
A Balance of Performance modifier is also applied to vehicles online. This ought to ensure that whatever car you pick is closely matched to others in the same class.

What we don’t know

A number of features remain unexplored. To date there has been no further information on the livery editor, photomode or scapes. The offline portion of the game, briefly explained at Copper Box, is still something of a mystery too. Polyphony also remains quiet regarding details on the various online championships, including the FIA events.
With the game still ear-marked for a 2017 release, and a jam-packed E3 just around the corner, GT fans likely won’t have to wait long for more details.

始終係遊戲....

我反而多用車後/鳥瞰
漂移向風格.....

街機F355/BG時代就可以講
最前視點玩目的:以最接近彎心Apex視點,TA向當然要攞到盡

最新GT軚同手掣應該會幾大分別吓?

ESPN: GT Academy Returns in 2017 With Gran Turismo Sport

May 22nd, 2017 by Jordan Greer

ESPN has produced a special report on 2011 GT Academy champion Jann Mardenborough, which premiered during Sunday’s broadcast of SportsCenter. Even though most GTPlanet readers will be very familiar with Jann’s story, it’s a beautifully produced video that even his most ardent followers will learn something from, and you should definitely go watch it.
The realnews, however, dropped after the feature aired, as the SportsCenter host chatted with one of the producers and narrator, Tom Rinaldi. While answering a question about Jann’s future, Tom interjected that, “by the way, GT Academy is opening in 2017 for anybody out there who wants to give it a go.”

First of all, it’s great to hear that GT Academy is set to return. After a significantly downscaled 2016 competition — hosted with little fanfare and open only to players in Australia, Southeast Asia, Mexico, and North Africa — there have been some legitimate concerns about the program’s future.
Despite this confirmation, it still raises more questions than it answers. Does the fact that ESPN — an American TV network — broke the news suggest GT Academy’s return to the United States? What about Europe? Does this offer us any clues for Gran Turismo Sport‘s release date? Perhaps we should expect a competition with live-event qualifiers, or a free, stand-alone GT Academy “demo” as we have seen in years past?

Fortunately, we might not have to wait long for official announcements. The largest gaming event of the year, E3, is just three weeks away. We are expecting Gran Turismo news from the show, and already have some time booked with series creator Kazunori Yamauchi. Buckle up, it looks like June is going to be a very busy month around here!

‘Never Before Seen’ Version of GT Sport at 2017 Nürburgring 24 Hours This Weekend

May 25th, 2017 by Kyle Patrick

Attendees at the 24 Hours Nürburgring will get a chance to try a brand new version of Gran Turismo Sport, starting today.
As the 45th running of the event takes place this weekend, Sony is once again one of the main partners. Due to this, a whole raft of the usual GT Sport gaming pods will dot the PlayStation stand at the ring°boulevard. According to the German PS blog, these pods will be running a “never-before-seen” version of the game.
Sony is remaining coy on what exactly is new about this version of GT Sport. Since E3 is scheduled only two weeks later, we don’t expect Sony to lay all the cards on the table. Even so, the N24 could show us a glimpse of upcoming content, perhaps tied to the beta’s expansion into Asia. Maybe Porsche will be playable — we’ve already seen the 911 on the Nürburgring, after all.
Nonetheless, there are a few surprises in store for fans eager to get behind the wheel.
How does a full-size Audi R8 LMS simulator sound? According to Sony, the car boasts full integration with GT Sport, giving players the full Green Hell experience. The R8 seems an appropriate choice for the job, as one of the first cars ever shown in the game.
Keen readers will note this isn’t the first iteration of such a setup. Way back in 2011, Sony treated a first-gen R8 LMS to a similar makeover. With technical details scarce, we wonder how much Polyphony has applied from the uber-expensive setup shown in Tokyo in 2015.

If you prefer a smaller screen much closer to your eyes, Sony’s bringing PSVR along as well. In fact, this will mark the first showing of GT Sport‘s VR capabilities at the ‘Ring. Since we haven’t heard much about the game’s VR integration in a while, we’ll be keeping an eye out for first-hand impressions.
Lastly, what’s a big event without prizes to be won? The player that nets the fastest time at the racing pods over the weekend will win a trip around the Nordschleife in the Ring Taxi. In addition, other exclusive prizes will be available as well.
The Nürburgring 24 Hours runs from today through Sunday, May 28.
Hat tip to queleuleu!
