UK, February 13, 2007 - Mark this one as a rumour for the moment but we've heard that Capcom is looking to bring the beautiful Okami to Wii. You can colour us excited at the prospect of using the Wiimote to control the game's innovative magical paintbrush.

Since Okami was released on PS2 last year in the States, it's been apparent that Clover Studios' epic game and the Wii seemed to go hand in hand, thanks to Nintendo's motion-sensing controller. However, today a reliable industry insider unaffiliated with Capcom told us that the company is seriously considering creating a Wii version and may even be working on it as we speak.

However, when we asked Capcom UK for confirmation of Okami's move to Wii we got this response: "Officially we have no plans for Okami on Wii at this time. Research and development are always looking at possibilities but given Clover is now closed for business, I think it highly unlikely a Wii version would be possible."

So there you have it - officially it's not happening but it's by no means a flat-out denial. And even with the closure of Clover Studios it wouldn't be that difficult for a team to port it across, particularly when you consider a lot of Clover staffers are likely to head over to Capcom once the studio finally shuts its doors next month.

Now who didn’t think of this once they saw the Okami gameplay, and the Wiimote functionality? IGN states that Capcom may very well be working on a port of Okami to the Wii. Their news comes from a “reliable industry insider unaffiliated with Capcom”. IGN contacted Capcom for a statement, which you can read below.



“Officially we have no plans for Okami on Wii at this time. Research and development are always looking at possibilities but given Clover is now closed for business, I think it highly unlikely a Wii version would be possible.”

That whole “officially” part in the beginning leads me to believe that something is in the works. What do you think? Thanks to everyone that sent this in.

IGNによれば、海外でもPS2で昨年末に発売された大神をカプコンがWiiで発売することを検討していると聞いたそうです。

“カプコン外部の信頼できる業界消息通"なる人物は、カプコンがWiiバージョンを作ることを真剣に検討していて、既に取り組んでいさえするかも知れないと語りました。ソースとされる具体的な話（？）はこれだけなので完全な噂話ですが、とりあえずカプコンUKに確認したところこう答えました。

「公式に大神をWiiで発売する計画は、現在ありません。調査や研究は常に可能性を探っていますが、しかし今クローバーが（3月に）閉鎖されていることを考えると、私はWiiバージョンの可能性が非常にありそうもないと考えます。」

オリジナルの大神は発売まで延期に延期を重ね、実際に登場したのは2006年春の4月でした。日本では既に斜陽期を迎えていたPS2での販売となり、製作期間に対してセールスは期待ほど伸びずに苦戦したということもあってか、どうせなら注目度の高いWiiで出したらいいのに…という話は当時からファンの間でも言われていました。

大神を無理やり一言でいうと、21世紀のテクノロジーで生まれた”ゼルダの伝説 in ふぁみこん昔話“みたいなゲームでもあり、表に裏に任天堂作品を強く意識した感じも受けます（そのゼルダでは、リンクが狼になってしまいますが…）。そこに筆しらべという、画面に一筆書き込むようなユニーク要素がそのままWiiリモコンにマッチしそうなこともあって、ゲームとしての相性はWiiと非常に良いように感じます。

しかも開発元のスタッフは元々ゲームキューブでビューティフルジョーなどを手がけていたこともあり、当時はWii版の登場も結構ありえそうな話に思えましたが、その後本作に関わったスタッフが退職してクローバースタジオは解散という結末を迎えてしまった今、これからアマテラスがWiiで復活する日は本当に来るのでしょうか…。

Capcom公司旗下以創意而聞名業內的四葉草工作室尚未解散之前的最後一款優秀作品《大神（Okami）》，自去年發售以來，在日本和美國都收到了廣泛的好評。而自從本作公佈之初，其遊戲方式和遊戲性就普遍被認為非常適合任天堂的新一代主機Wii，因此也有為數眾多的玩家對本作移植Wii平台而充滿了期待。

根據來自國外著名遊戲網站IGN的報道，他們從業內的可靠消息渠道獲悉，Capcom目前正在考慮將《大神》移植到Wii平台，而且初步的相關工作可能已經展開了。能夠使用Wii的動作感應手柄來操作這款遊戲，對許多玩家來說無疑是夢寐以求的。

然而到目前為止，Capcom官方還未發表任何正式的聲明來確認此事的準確性。在聯繫了一位Capcom官方發言人後我們獲悉，「不排除日後繼續進行（《大神》）相關的開發和研究工作，但就目前的情況來說，四葉草（Clover）工作室已經面臨解散，因此目前我們還沒有將本作移植到Wii平台的計劃。」

儘管並未得到官方的正式確認，但從官方發言人的態度中也不難看出，《大神》登陸Wii平台的可能性還是相當高的。另一方面，無論是對於Capcom還是對即將解散的四葉草工作室來說，要將本作移植Wii也並非難事。

The October issue of EGM has hit subscribers’ mailboxes, and the rumor section comes with a rumor that we’ve been dealing with for months. Now EGM believes that Capcom is working on Okami Wii. They don’t state whether it is a sequel or port, but just the fact that they are reporting in their rumor section gives me that much more hope. Their rumors have quite a track record of turning out true. Keep your fingers crossed for this one.

雖然銷量低, 但呢隻真係超強作, 遊戲性, 創意同遊戲長度都滿分, 舊年橫掃好多獎項, 包括唔少 "2006年全年大獎" 係實至名歸的一等一佳作.

我一口氣打成70個鐘打爆一次, 仲未覺悶, 好期待出續集.

Whereas information seemed increasingly probable, Capcom confirmed yesterday, at the time of its Gamer' S Day of London, that it will announce officially tomorrow Friday the development of the play Okami on Wii. No additional information does not have for the moment filtered concerning this project.

Is there yet another Capcom megaton announcement coming? Possibly if we believe French gaming site—that we've never heard of until today—Jeux Actu's report that Okami has been "confirmed on Wii." Given that news from Capcom's London Gamer's Day, including revelations that Street Fighter IV, Dark Void and a PLAYSTATION 3 port of Lost Planet were all en route, we won't blink at an announcement that Capcom is bringing Okami to the Wii.

The game has long been rumored to come to Nintendo's platform and while Capcom's Keiji Inafune didn't outright deny the port of Clover's beautiful adventure game, no confirmation has come our way.

Reaction to the rumor hasn't been 100% positive, however. When reached for comment, Okami superfan Lunk Plunkett of Australia said "I hate the internet." Regardless of the tiring roller coaster of emotions, we thank you for your tips on the matter.

Longtemps fantasmé par les joueurs, puis évoqué dans de nombreuses rumeurs, Okami est enfin confirmé sur Wii. Attendu pour début 2008, il est bien évidemment basé sur la formidable version PlayStation 2 que tout le monde connaît déjà, et permettra d'effectuer les tracés de pinceau à l'aide de la Wiimote. Une rumeur qui tombe donc du côté de Capcom, et qui a de quoi ravir les possesseurs de Wii en mal de gros titres actuellement.
