[Update 3:56pm ET: Well, that was fast. Unsurprisingly, EA assassins have leapt into action, lobbing a throwing star into the unlucky server that housed the just-there-a-second-ago Mass Effect 3 listing. We've got our screen grabs after the break if you want to relive the memories.]

The EA Store has added a pre-order listing for Mass Effect 3 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The listing includes a description that notes the "Earth is burning" and Commander Shepard (that's you!) has to gather the races of the galaxy to launch "one final mission" against machines striking from beyond known space.

Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth.

No release window is provided on the site. Well, we guess that confirms the rumors we've been hearing about. The game is expected to be officially announced tomorrow during the 2010 VGAs on Spike. Just in case the page gets pulled, we've saved a full screengrab after the break, along with the game's description, just below. Also of note, the search screen which lists Mass Effect 3 releases for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 platforms. This, of course, is likely placeholder data (evidenced by the PC release's unlikely $59.95 price tag) and there's no release dates, placeholder or otherwise, so it's anybody's guess as to whether all three versions will be released simultaneously.

Mass Effect 3 was confirmed for a Holiday 2011 release at tonight's Spike Video Game Awards awards.

Set to take place on Earth, the game will see players traveling the universe attempting to rally the races of Citadel Space to take the human homeworld back and defeat the Reapers and their Collector army once and for all.

The trailer alluded to rumors of a new multiplayer element for the series, which will likely take place amidst the human resistance's battle with the Collector invasion force.

Platforms were not announced.

The latest issue of Game Informer contains a ton of details about Mass Effect 3. The first round of information is beginning to trickle in, which you can read about below. We’ve also included a blurry scan/magazine image (via GameFAQs) from the issue.

- Game begins with Shepard on Earth
- Shepard is on trial in regard to the events of Arrival
- Reapers invade while the trial is happening
- Prologue: Shepard’s escape to the Normandy, off to start finding allies, fighting Reaper troops
- Squadmates include Liara, Ashley/Kaiden, Garrus, James Sanders
- Screenshot shown of Ashley with her hair down
- Confirmed appearances (may not be squadmates): Wrex, Mordin, Legion, and Anderson
- Game will show a “previously on Mass Effect” comic to make decisions if you’re starting from scartch
- The Illusive Man plays a big role
- Cerberus is out to kill Shepard
- Enhanced RPG elements
- More freedom with character skills
- Larger skill trees
- Powers will evolve several times, not just once
- Weapons are like the ones in Mass Effect 2, have a set list

EA 與 FUNimation 宣布知名遊戲《質量效應》將改編動畫電影

EA 旗下 BioWare 與 FUNimation Entertainment 今日宣布，將合作打造知名角色扮演遊戲《質量效應》改編動畫；日本 T.O Entertainment 也確定將參與共同製作，動畫故事將以《質量效應》世界為基礎，描述設定在充滿危險的外星生物與未知行星的史詩級科幻冒險旅程。

　　《質量效應》系列執行製作人、BioWare 的 Casey Hudson 將會擔任此部動畫電影的執行製片，並與 FUNimation 總裁暨執行長 Gen Fukunaga、Original Entertainment 總監 Chris Moujaes 與 T.O Entertainment 執行長 本田武市、柴田維共同製作此部動畫電影。

　　Casey Hudson 指出，過去幾年 BioWare 透過不同的媒體揭露《質量效應》世界的不同面向，透過動畫媒介來展現故事內容對他們而言將是另一個令人驚喜的機會。與 FUNimation 合作將可把《質量效應》這個充滿豐富設定的遊戲內容，以高品質與細膩的方式具體在動畫中呈現。

Spanish mag reveals new Mass Effect 3 details

A spanish magazine’s carrying a lengthy feature on Mass Effect 3, and new details have emerged out of it.

Obvious spoilers ahead for anyone who’s yet play the previous games. Proceed with caution.

Translated by GAF user Lakitu, the new details are below:

* The reason Cerberus is put against us is explained at the beginning of the adventure.
* Cerberus troops include: Mechas, Assault units, Shock troops – ninja-style.
* Reapers: They have different sizes, ranging from 500-600 meters of the smaller ships to the 2km large Herald.
* New skills for Shepard: Rolling, jumping small holes in the ground. Greater variety of melee attacks. The article specifically mentions “a new class: Heavy Melee”.
* New skills: Engineer can build turrets.
* Customizable weapons: Guns, sight – five variants in each section.
* More items to “loot.”
* Space Battles? Perhaps, but unconfirmed.
* Scenarios: Larger. We will see people walking, ships fighting, architecture in greater detail. Searching for the photorealism of sites using new lighting techniques on the stage.
* Enemies: They now take dynamic damage. The Cerberus mechas, for example, requires that we shoot a weak point, the glass cockpit, in order to overcome them. In other enemies we can cut off the arms, break the head or break various pieces of their armor.
* Fighting more dynamic, forcing us to move more frequently. The game’s speed is improved by 10 to 15 percent.
* Exploration: We won’t drive vehicles seen in previous games. The main gameplay is designed without them. This does not mean that there are no vehicles, but they can’t reveal more now. There is a new scanning system.

* Locations to visit: New York, London, a moon of ¿Koriana? (maybe they mean Quarian or Krogan) world, a salarian world and Mars, among others. The development of each environment takes about six months.

The magazine also quizzed the developers about the future of the series. A quick google translate produced these answers:

Mag: This being the end of the trilogy, can we expect in the future?

Bioware: Mass Effect 3 closes the history of Shepard, but the universe that we have created is still there, with many possible stories to tell. I see many possibilities in the future, from an MMO to a degree of action in first-person, or even a platformer. It all depends on what players want in the future.

Mag: Mass Effect 3 will have multiplayer?

Bioware: We’ve always wanted to include it, since the first Mass Effect. Explore ways to be able to offer for each delivery, but [we're not] fully convinced of the solutions we have found so far.

我諗未至於唔明既. 條主線劇情要講番出黎都好簡單.
而且ME2出PS3版時都整左個互動漫畫交代番ME1 o的劇情. 到時ME3話唔定有同樣做法.

不過唔清楚歷史背景, 種族特色, 人物關係, 投入度始終差少少.

而且ME1個劇情係有少少出人意表的. 就咁睇文字或漫畫交代就o徒o左o的.

冇出過. 但建議你買番, 呢個系列雖然有D瑕疵, 不過真係好有電影感同好好玩, 易上手過一般美式RPG好多.

第一集去玩亞買白金版最抵, 包一個DLC同一堆bonus. 呢個版冇出亞版, 出面街都買唔到.

Mass Effect 3 will have gay romance option for male Shepard

Mass Effect Executive Producer Casey Hudson has confirmed that the final installment of the trilogy will finally allow a male Shepard to know the touch of another man. Hudson tweeted over the weekend that Mass Effect 3 will support "wider options for love interests," including same-sex for male and female characters "reactive to how you interact with them in-game."

Previous installments of the stellar, interstellar saga allowed Shepard to participate in male/female, lesbian and Asari tentacle-head encounters. The omission of a gay pairing for Shepard became even harder to reconcile when BioWare's Dragon Age series allowed players the freedom to define the sexual orientation of their protagonists.

In interviews, BioWare heads Drs. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk have been responsive to the subject. "The team has its perspective," Muzyka told us during February's DICE meeting. "When they created the character, when they defined him. We're pretty open to how the team wants to define their characters. We go with what they like."

It seems the team is ready to try something different.
