ガンホー傘下でモバイル向けコンテンツ配信などを行っているGモードは、バーチャルコンソールに引き続き、「Wiiウェア」にも参入することを発表しました。
第一弾としては、携帯向けにも配信している『天使のソリティア』(仮称)が予定されているということです。本作は、かわいい天使と悪魔のカードを数字順に揃えていくというカードゲームになります。2003年から提供開始されていて、累計ダウンロード数が280万件を超える人気タイトルです。配信日は公表されていません。 「Wiiウェア」にはシンプルなゲームから、大き目の作品まで幅広いコンテンツが揃いそうですね。下は携帯向けの『天使のソリティアDX』です。

ハドソンは本日開催された「任天堂カンファレンス2007秋」に合わせて、任天堂が2008年3月に開始予定のゲームダウンロードサービス「Wiiウェア」に参入することを発表しました。
第一弾はカラオケ事業を行うエクシングとの共同開発で、家庭用カラオケソフト『JOY SOUND Wii』が予定されています。これは業務用カラオケと同様に採点機能や歌唱指導、各種パーティゲームなどを備えた本格的カラオケソフトで、J-POPを中心に演歌やキッズソングなどを随時配信していくということで、2008年内には業務用カラオケ機器と同じレベルの機能を目指すということです。ダウンロードコンテンツならではの展開ができそうです。
エントリーユーザー向けに、USBマイク同梱のパッケージ版(人気の楽曲を数十曲収録したディスクと専用USBマイク。ディスクにはパーティーゲームやミニゲームも収録:発売時期未定、価格未定)も発売する予定だということです。
また、スターソルジャーの新作である『Star Soldier R』や『Bomberman』などのタイトルも続々と投入していく予定だとのこと。 全て2008年春発売予定となります。

The main talking point, though, is that of WiiWare and how IGN has recently spoken with several developers that are using the service. According to these sources, most games are being budgeted at $100,000 or lower, with game developers able to either pitch ideas directly to Nintendo or Third Parties can simply go through the standard publisher route as well. Lots of “really weird deals” are currently underway as a result, with smaller companies trying very different models for the greatest profit and smallest risk. At present, the balance of Nintendo games to Third Party efforts is 35 : 65, as Nintendo is actively encouraging developers to try this route and not impact too much on their progress and success (as some have complained about on the Wii console side, with Nintendo’s games taking the greater share of sales).
In addition to this, the size limit on all WiiWare titles is currently 40MB, no doubt due to the space issues of the Wii’s internal memory, but officially Nintendo wants to encourage the development of super simple games that can be loved by everyone the world over. To help enforce this, Nintendo is throwing in the incentive of paying developers quicker if they keep their file sizes as small as possible. Matt states that he knows of ten games currently in development. As for the price of games, these are directly set by the developer, meaning things should work out cheaper overall for the consumer. And there is no need to worry about heaps of low quality rubbish hitting WiiWare, since Nintendo is only permitting one release per month per developer to discourage some teams simple shoving as many games on as possible without putting any real effort into development.

GDC 08: LostWinds for WiiWare

The main character is a guy called Toku, a young boy who's discovered this wind spirit that's trapped in a stone. You control both Toku using the device called the nunchuck. He's actually quite vulnerable, in terms of where he can go--also there are things in the world that are threatening--but you also control the wind spirit that he's able to release which is called Enril. And the wind spirit is controlled by the Wiimote.
By moving the Wiimote around, in different shapes, you can create gentle breezes of wind or strong gusts, or even by twisting it around, little sort of water sticks. The game overall is designed to be a really sort of graceful, beautiful experience where you're using these essentially two separate characters in combination, and that brings us all sorts of possibilities in the way the game works, which makes it feel very fresh.

Design studio Frontier Developments (the design studio behind the Thrillville franchise and the upcoming game The Outsider) has crafted a platforming/adventure game that spans 22 areas of play in a 3D-modeled world that is detailed down to the blades of grass in the background that blow as you breeze by. It's impressive in scope for a downloadable title, and better still, it delivers on the promise of original and innovative gameplay only possible with a system like the Nintendo Wii. "
"LostWind is a concept that couldn't easily be done justice on any other system (the sole exception being the Nintendo DS, of course -- in fact, this game has a very "DS" feeling to it), and yet it's also a small, old-school, play-oriented idea that owes a lot to the timing of WiiWare's introduction. The work of about 12 dedicated staffers at Frontier Developments over a year's cycle, it's the kind of game that could have been overcooked if it had to balloon into a disc-based game, and yet it probably wouldn't have been as compelling as a portable game since the two-character play fits each of the Wii's controllers so well. Frontier is aiming to have LostWind be a launch-period title for the WiiWare service (recently announced by Nintendo as starting this May), and we'll be taking a further look at at LostWind to see how the gameplay measures up to the promise of the video highlights we've seen of it in motion. "
