Microsoft partners with Japanese developers, games to be announced in 2014

Microsoft has signed on some Japanese development teams to bolster the Xbox One's presence in that region, Microsoft Studios Corporate VP Phil Spencer told Kotaku. Spencer said the as-yet-unannounced games will be revealed in 2014, and that they will be "full Japanese games" as opposed to downloadable ones.

Spencer also discussed the hardware manufacturer's relationship with Panzer Dragoon creator Yukio Futatsugi, who recently launched Crimson Dragon on Xbox One. Microsoft is currently "talking to him about what we might want to do next with him," and that "there's some interest out there in some older [intellectual property]." Spencer specifically noted that Phantom Dust, Futatsugi's original Xbox cult classic, has been discussed as a property that could potentially be rebooted. Futatsugi told Joystiq in June at E3 that he would like to make a Crimson Dragon RPG.

Spencer added that he expects an increase in Japanese indie developer interest in Xbox One. "We kicked off our independent developer program when were at Tokyo Game Show and saw some top talent walk through the door, so I think you'll see some indies too... I'm committed to the development there."

Xbox One customers affected by hardware problems get a free game

Microsoft is compensating owners of defective Xbox Ones by providing them with a free downloadable game to play as they wait for a replacement console. The company told Polygon it's sending customers a download code for one of Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5, and Zoo Tycoon.

"While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game," reads a Microsoft statement provided to Polygon. "We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios."

The news follows confirmation from Microsoft that "a very small number of Xbox One customers" had procured consoles with broken disc drives. Microsoft is sending these customers replacement consoles, but since these defective consoles can still play games stored on their hard drives, users would be able to play downloadable games while they wait for their new systems to arrive.

“The PS4 is great, but if we’re purely talking adult content … the Xbox One is superior,” Rebecca Bolen, a rep for SugarDVD, claimed.


“Simply put, the Xbox One is a gateway for porn of the future,” SugarDVD CEO Jax Smith said, no doubt to the delight of Microsoft execs. “The PS4 is pretty, but Xbox One allows for more seamless integration and a more interactive experience.”
