Amazon.co.ukに、Rockstarから発売されるプレイステーション2用「Grand Theft Auto」最新作が陳列されている。それによると、タイトルは噂通り「Grand Theft Auto IV: Sin City」に、そして発売日は11月5日に、価格は39.99ポンドに設定されている(いずれも英国でのもの )。

　11月5日という日付については、Rockstarの今年度の会計年度ギリギリ(11月末)となっている。Amazon.co.ukが完全に正しいかどうかは不明で、E3近辺で全ての全貌が明らかになると予測される。

據Amazon.co.uk的情報指出，Rockstar將於2004年11月5日發表推出人氣系列「橫行霸道」最新作四代「Grand Theft Auto IV：Sin City」，遊戲預定定價39.99英鎊，至於確實的情況如何玩家不妨就先拭目以待吧。

「橫行霸道」系列為Rockstar於PS2上發售推出的百萬人氣大作，後來三代與「VC」移植到Xbox上發售後也都有不錯的評價表現，玩家在遊戲中將扮演一名惡徒為非作歹，可說是一款非常獨特的遊戲作品。

January 05, 2004 - It's not uncommon to find listings for unannounced games on retailers' lists. Because they have to update databases and prepare for the launch of a game, retailers are often privy to release information earlier than even much of the press. Such is the case with the next game in the Grand Theft Auto series, Sin City.

Rumored for months to be either Sin City or San Andreas, it looks like Vegas won out. A search for Sin City on Amazon's UK site will pull up a page for Grand Theft Auto IV: Sin City, scheduled for release on November 4, 2004 in Europe. The console of choice listed is not surprisingly the PlayStation 2, but with last year's release of the Double Pack, an Xbox port is not out of the question.
We know absolutely nothing about the game outside of the title's implication that the game will take place in Las Vegas-like city - perfect, considering the theme and tone of the previous games. We can only assume that Sin City will use a modified GTA 3 graphics engine, and that the game will be a small evolution for the series as opposed to a revolution.

We attempted to contact Rockstar Games to get an official comment, but the company had nothing to say, not even a "no comment."

It's now looking increasingly unlikely that the recent reports of Grand Theft Auto 4 being subtitled Sin City and having a release date of 5 November are somewhat wide of the mark.

The story originated after the UK version of online retailer Amazon posted this information on the game a few days ago. However, it now appears as if Amazon came across the details from a nine month-old April fool's joke that appeared on a US website, which stated, "The new game will mix Grand Theft Auto gameplay with Frank Miller's [comic book] Sin City universe."

Tellingly, Amazon are now referring to the game simply as Grand Theft Auto: Next Episode and have removed the 5 November release date, although apparently this is actually fairly close to the game's true on-sale date. As regards the name, the current school of thought is that the game will be subtitled San Andreas, as has been widely rumoured for months.

GTA publishers Rockstar are giving little away at present, saying only that an announcement regarding the game's details has yet to be made, although one source did tell us that "you'd be surprised at how soon" this will be.

Take-Twoが米国で「GTA: San Andreas」という商標を登録していることがわかった。その他にも「GTA5」と「GTA6」も登録されている。ファイリングの日付はいずれも2003年12月17日。

　ちなみに先日Amazon.UKがPS2用「Grand Theft Auto: Sin City」を11月5日発売で陳列していることをお伝えしたが、現在は「Grand Theft Auto: Next Episode」に改称され発売日も12月31日に変更されてしまっている。

先日、Take-Twoが「GTA: San Andreas」及び「GTA5」「GTA6」を米国で商標登録していることをお伝えしたが、その後さらに別の呼称も登録されていることが判明した。その中には私たちが住む日本の首都"東京"の名も含まれている。

　カプコンとの協力により「Grand Theft Auto: Tokyo」なんてタイトルが発売されたら、かなりの話題を呼ぶかもしれない(この部分妄想ですよ )。
