Sony Online Entertainment(SOE)がPS3、PC向けに開発中のMMO「DC Universe Online」の詳細が英国のゲーム雑誌EDGEマガジンに掲載されました。

 「DC Universe Online」はスーパーマン、バットマン、ワンダーウーマンといったアメコミのスーパーヒーロー達が大集合した作品で、伝統的なMMOと一人称視点のアクションがミックスされたゲームプレイが特徴です。

 残念ながらプレイヤーはポイズン・アイビーなど有名なDCキャラクターとしてプレイすることは出来ませんが、火、氷、アクロバット、飛行、テレポーションなどを操る英雄/悪者となってDCキャラクターと触れ合うことが出来ます。(例えば、レックス・ルーサーと戦うスーパーマンを助けるミッション、クエストなど。)

 また、クリエイティブディレクターのJim Lee氏によれば、コミック版の「DC Universe」と同時進行するストーリーイベントもあるのだとか。早く実際のゲームプレイ画面を見てみたいですね。来月開催のE3では出展はあるのでしょうか?楽しみです。

Some new details have emerged of DC Universe Online, the new PC and PS3 MMO in development at Sony Online Entertainment.

In this month's Edge magazine, executive creative director Jim Lee describes DC Universe as a "kick-ass hybrid between a traditional MMO and a first-person action console game".

You'll get to create your own superhero or villain, choosing their particular powers, according to the Edge article. So you'll decide whether to attack using fire or ice, for example, and move around using acrobatics or the power of flight. Other potential abilities mentioned in the article include speed-running and teleportation.

As with a traditional MMO your character will level up as you progress, and you'll develop your powers. When the game starts you might be able to fly, but only later will you learn how to pull off specific moves and attacks in mid-air.

Although you don't get to "be" any of the famous DC characters, you do get to interact with them. That might mean you end up saving Superman from being stabbed with a shard of kryptonite by Lex Luthor. Or, if you're a villain, you could cause carnage by chucking cars around downtown Metropolis, thereby encouraging the boy in blue to turn up and fight you.

Metropolis is one of two large shared environments revealed so far, the other being Gotham City. Unlike World of Warcraft, DC Universe will be comprised of a mix of these environments and separate instances. And while there will still be instances and raids, the emphasis will be on fast-paced action rather than grinding.

There will be PvP arenas, and you'll be able to make use of your superpowers and those of others in interesting ways. For example, someone might freeze your character in a block of ice, then pick up the block and chuck it at another player. In some instances, PvP fights will end up turning into giant PvE boss battles.

In the future, it's possible we could see models, environments and costumes from the game turning up in other DC Comics properties, and there are plans for plot crossovers. "We can tie-in future DC tentpole events and translate the stories for the gaming world, and have them occur simultaneously," said Lee. "The possibilities are numerous and very exciting."

UPDATE:This article previously reported that DC Universe Online is out next year. This was an error on our part. Sony Online Entertainment has not yet given any word on when the game will be released. Sorry about that.

好似City of Heroes甘,每個人創造一個超能力英雄,只不過唔可以做漫畫內的名角色。因為唔可以90000個Batman通街走。

不過我希望可以比你扮Green Lantern,事關Green Lantern Corps有好多個,多一個唔多。

バットマンやスーパーマン、ジョーカーなど様々なヒーロー、ヴィラン(悪役)が登場する。ゲームシステムの詳細は不明だが、プレーヤーはカスタマイズしたヒーロー、ヴィランとなり、激しく戦うことになる。アクションゲームとなるようで、最大8vs8の戦いが可能。人工衛星を落とそうとするヴィランと、それを阻止するヒーローといった戦いが繰り広げられるミッションなどが用意されるとのこと

September 15, 2008 - With such a rich history and sheer amount of stories that have been told during the lifespan of DC Comics, it would take someone trusted and well-versed in this universe to tell its stories in DC Universe Online. With the announcement of comic luminary Geoff Johns as being the lead writer for the game, it seems that DC and Sony are on the right track to keep the DCU as faithful as possible when the new MMO launches. We recently had the chance to chat with Geoff about his role in the game's development and how he plans to stay faithful to this beloved Universe.


IGN: What are your responsibilities for DCU Online?
Geoff Johns: I basically wrote the story for the overall game. I worked on the big picture plan for DCU Online – just what the world was when you enter. I think the story is sort of a call to arms. The first big story in the game deals with the influx of new heroes in the DCU. The cool thing is that you can get into all these different paths. You can work with nearly every character in the DC Universe and choose your path, as far as heroes and villains go.

They really want to bring the DCU to life, so you won't just find Superman fighting Lex Luthor, it's everybody. I've written something where the game takes you every place in the DCU. It goes from something as big and well known as Metropolis, all the way to something like the inner sanctum of the Doom Patrol.

IGN: What's the difference between this script versus the average comic book script?
GJ: It's completely different since it's not just a straight line – it's creating an entire world and how characters interact and react to your presence. It's kind of limitless. There's a focus on what you want to do and what you want to achieve. It has this great freedom that you won't find in a comic. There's no real ability to turn a page, so you can just enter a building like the Justice League headquarters or the Hall of Doom. It's the same arena that I'm used to playing in, so I'm really comfortable doing it and it's really a lot of fun. There are so many things that you can visit and interact with that you wouldn't have thought of.

IGN: How much did you and Jim Lee collaborate for this project?
GJ: Jim and I have always talked about doing stuff together and now that we are, it's a lot of fun. Jim's an amazing artist and to see him re-approach the designs to these characters is really impressive. Everything is mapped out and much bigger than you'd find in the comic. The game really captures the scope of everything that a comic just can't. You can enter these places and really see how deep everything is and it's a lot of fun to be working with Jim on this. When you have to escape from Arkham Asylum, it's not just a three-page sequence that doesn't really show the massive size of this place – it's a huge ordeal when you're trying to get out. Especially when Batman's trying to stop you.



IGN: Will the game use upcoming story lines, such as Blackest Night? Is there a binding narrative between the game and the comics?
GJ: There are definitely things in the game that you won't find in the comic, since we have this story line dealing with all of these new characters entering the world. Due to the nature of the game and its story, the entry point deals with something on its own, where all the characters of the DC Universe are dealing with all these new heroes. As you progress and delve deeper into the game, you'll find things in that you may remember from the comics. There will be things that you'll recognize immediately if you've been reading the DC comics for any period of time. Even though there won't be something immediately binding, all the characters and the entire world should feel very familiar to the players.

IGN: You're known for incorporating a lot of the smaller elements of the DCU in a very accessible and powerful way – are you able to do that here, or is it something where you had to be broad in your approach?
GJ: No, it's both. It's broad. It's minute. Writing it, writing the characters in this world is exactly what I'm used to. The details can get even more minute when dealing with the character's interactions and their reactions of what's going on, and the daily life of the characters in the DCU. It's great because you can explore every facet of every world. If you want to stay with the big guys, you stay with the big guys, but if you want to go deep into the Titan Tower and spend some time there, you can do that too. It's not only a great way to interact with this familiar world, but to keep things as broad or minute as the player wants.

IGN: What was the approach to writing the entire lore for the DCU in the game?
GJ: The biggest challenge was actually saying okay, this is a game where you enter the DC Universe as a hero or villain. You're going to live and breathe this universe, and you have to cater to that. I like to think that when you're not playing the game, you in the real world is your secret identity. When you go into the game, that's your mask. I want to make the world where the story makes sense, where new characters, new heroes and villains are coming into the DCU. Our focus was this first step into the game and this universe, making that user experience something that's familiar to fans of the DCU.

  SOE(Sony Online Entertainment)宣布,曾經參與《蝙蝠俠》、《驚奇 4 超人》等作品的著名作家 Marv Wolfman 正式加入《DC 超級英雄 Online》創作團隊中,將為遊戲故事加入更具戲劇性的內容。

  Wolfman 將為《DC 超級英雄 Online》撰寫具吸引力的故事情節,創造令人興奮的任務與遊戲活動等。SOE 也趁紐約卡漫大展釋出《DC 超級英雄 Online》的新一批遊戲畫面。

  SOE 強調,《DC 超級英雄 Online》是由明星團隊所組成,除了過去 30 年來在美國漫畫界備受推崇的 Marv Wolfman 外,還包括繪製《超人》、《蝙蝠俠》的著名畫家 Jim Lee 擔任遊戲執行創意總監,DC 著名作家 Geoff Johns 來架構整個遊戲主要故事等。

  PC/PS3《DC 超級英雄 Online》目前正在 SOE 的 Austin Studio 持續與華納兄弟、 DC Comics 合作開發中,據 Geoff Johns 之前預估可能要到 2010 年才會上市。
