【明報專訊】香港「波子王」歐陽若曦（Darryl）今年首度轉戰世界房車錦標賽即取得佳績，周日於葡萄牙分站獨立盃賽事首膺冠軍，成為歷來首個站上世界賽頒獎台頂端的華人車手。經過10回合賽事，Darryl的總排名已升至第2位，續向總冠軍目標進發，期望能藉此贏得廠隊車隊賞識，挑戰潛能極限。
出戰保時捷賽事多年的歐陽若曦今年暫別「老拍檔」，改以雪佛蘭Lacetti參加世界房車錦標賽，在周日舉行的葡萄牙分站獨立盃，Darryl先於第一回合勇奪亞軍，再在第二回合以0.858秒之差力壓英國 車手Colin Turkington，成為首個榮膺分站冠軍的華人車手，連同廠隊車手的總排名也排在第9位。經過5站10回合賽事後，歐陽若曦第5度踏上頒獎台，在獨立盃的總排名升至第2位，向首個世界冠軍目標邁進一大步。
總排名升上第2
歐陽若曦曾兩奪保時捷亞洲盃總冠軍，但出戰全季世界賽則是首次，而且有別於後驅裝置的保時捷，Darryl改駕的雪佛蘭屬前驅車（即前置引擎、前輪驅動），儘管已在短時間熟習新車性能，Darryl謙稱仍屬汲取經驗階段。他說：「其實去年已有在歐洲角逐世界超級跑車賽（FIA GT）的經驗，今年是隨升級目標進發。相比之下，房車賽對手實力更強，不少曾是F1車手，而且碰撞會更多。」
盼來年獲廠隊垂青
由於Darryl代表的英國Bamboo Engineering車隊屬私人車隊，故只能角逐獨立盃賽事，他的座駕也是2008年出廠，性能難與獲龐大研發支持的廠隊戰車相比，但在總排名也能與廠隊車手不分上下，足見Darryl潛力無限。世界房車賽現時尚餘6站，煞科戰將於Darryl最熟悉的澳門 東望洋賽道上演，他坦言現在已感到「非常緊張」，期望能在福地實現世界冠軍夢。歐陽若曦的經理人兼賽車評述員陳恩能坦言Darryl今次奪冠意義良多：「以前的保時捷盃是『波子鬥波子』，而且僅屬亞洲賽，今次除了是世界賽，又有不同車種角逐，難度高好多。今次比賽在香港也有直播，對Darryl爭取贊助商支持大有幫助，期望他來年能夠加入廠隊車隊。」

Volvo confirms WTCC programme

Volvo will compete in the FIA World Touring Car Championship full-time in 2011, it has been announced today. It follows the decision by the manufacturer to give the green light to Polestar Racing, official Volvo Motorsport partner since 1996, to enter a C30 car for Robert Dahlgren next year.
"Racing results in 2011, however important, will be second priority,” said Volvo in a statement to the press. “Polestar's first and foremost task is to evaluate the car and the championship to provide Volvo Cars with a technical and commercial base to finalise an official Volvo entry from 2012."
"We are very happy and proud to get this vote of confidence. It will be a challenge for us but we have been prepared for this for several years. Our organisation is in place and we have already started the preparation," said Christian Dahl, Managing Director at Polestar Racing.
Volvo has won titles in the 1985 European Touring Car Championship, the 1998 British Touring Car Championship and more recently in the Swedish and Scandinavian Touring Car Championships.
Now the Swedish manufacturer is to take the first step towards a comeback in international motorsport.
"Volvo has a long standing tradition in touring car racing and through the WTCC we see a potential for converting this into a global commercial tool from 2012,” continued Magnus Jonsson, Volvo Cars Senior Vice President of Product Development and Chairman of the Motorsport Board.
“It is vital that technical and commercial aspects of the series align with our ambitions and this is what Polestar will answer for us in 2011."
WTCC General Manager Marcello Lotti added: "It is with the greatest satisfaction that we welcome Volvo's participation in the 2011 WTCC. They supported us back in 2002 when we launched the FIA S2000 class in the European Touring Car Championship, and now they are back again the moment we adopt new technical rules, which shows their trust in the FIA and our organisation.
“To have such an important brand backing WTCC in these difficult times for motorsport is a big boost for all of us, and I am confident that Volvo's move will have a positive impact on those car manufacturers that have showed interest in joining the championship."

The FIA World Touring Car Championship remains an important platform for BMW racing strategies even though the German car manufacturer will pull out of WTCC with its factory team.
Saturday in Munich, during the traditional end of season party, BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen confirmed that: “The BMW 320 TC, powered by the newly-developed 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engine, will expand our Customer Racing offering and be entered in the World Touring Car Championship.”
To date BMW Motorsport has delivered over 60 BMW 320si WTCC racing kits to customer teams across the world and they hope to repeat this success with the new 320 TC (the acronym stands for Touring Car) that will be propelled by the same 1.6 litre unit to be used by the MINI in the World Rally Championship.
WTCC promoter Marcello Lotti commented: “We are pleased that BMW has borne our expectations out, granting continuity to their traditional commitment to production-based touring car racing, a category that has always been part of the company’s DNA and gave a major contribution to promote the BMW brand worldwide.”
Talking about the world championship’s near future, Lotti added: “Our priority was to saveguard the grid and the level of competition on track. BMW’s decision to offer to their WTCC teams a two-year upgrading package is a big boost for the championship that from 2011 welcomes Volvo in addition to the three brands already represented.”
