F1 2013 announced for Xbox 360 release this year - screens, DLC details and trailer

Classic Edition of the game offers exclusive F1 2013 DLC

Codemasters has announced F1 2013 for release this fall, and unveiled the very first screenshots and videos. Besides the usual annual updates to reflect real-world F1 events, the game adds an F1 Classics mode that gives "fans the chance to race classic cars on iconic circuits against legendary drivers for the first time".

"F1 2013 will feature all the cars, circuits and star drivers from the 2013 season, allowing gamers to race as Lewis Hamilton in his Mercedes and Sergio Perez in the McLaren-Mercedes for the first time," reads the release, "and includes all of the new drivers, updated rules, tyre changes and remodelled handling to authentically reflect the challenge and exhilaration of racing 2013's stunning roster of FORMULA ONE cars.

"A range of game enhancements, split-screen and online multiplayer, plus new and returning game modes delivers the most complete FORMULA ONE experience in videogame history," it continues.

F1 Classic is "introduced by legendary broadcaster Murray Walker", and "allows players to race iconic 1980s cars from Williams, Lotus and Ferrari against drivers including Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi and Gerhard Berger, with more to be announced, on classic circuits Brands Hatch and Jerez. Classic content is also available in a range of other game modes, including split-screen and online multiplayer modes."

There's also a Classic Edition, which boasts two F1 2013 DLC packs with content from the 1990s, additional F1 Classics circuits and new game modes. The 1990s pack adds "classic cars from both Williams and Ferrari and drivers such as David Coulthard, Jacques Villeneuve, Eddie Irvine and Alain Prost and others". All this will be available as regular DLC on Xbox Live, shortly after release.

F1 2013 is "fully integrated" with Codemasters' online community hub RaceNet, launched last year in beta form alongside F1 2012. The service has notched up 46 million races on the part of registered members to date, apparently, and "will offer connected players regular in-game challenges, community-wide challenges, visual stats and game progress updates to compare with their friends". You can access it via a mobile device if you choose.

Other gameplay tweaks and additions include the ability to save mid-race - useful when undertaking a 180 minute behemoth - the return of Grand Prix mode and an expanded Young Driver Test mode. Here are some vids. Any takers?
